The NUTRAFOOD Center, “Interdepartmental Research Center for Nutraceuticals and Nutrition for Health,” established on July 26, 2013, has the main goal of bringing together the efforts of all professors and researchers working in the fields of food, nutrition, nutraceuticals, and health.
With this Center, the University of Pisa has equipped itself with a unique tool capable of carrying out multidisciplinary studies, which are essential for a complex field such as nutraceuticals. The results of these studies can help improve the overall health status of the population and reduce the demand for healthcare services. The following nine departments of the University of Pisa are part of the Center:
- Biology
- Economics and Management
- Pharmacy
- Law
- Clinical and Experimental Medicine
- Surgical, Medical, Molecular Pathology and Critical Care Medicine
- Translational Research and New Technologies in Medicine and Surgery
- Agricultural, Food and Agro-environmental Sciences
- Veterinary Sciences
Since 2013, the NUTRAFOOD Center has carried out intensive scientific activity, as demonstrated by numerous papers published in international ISI journals. It also conducts educational and science communication activities through initiatives, projects, seminars, and conferences aimed at engaging citizens, consumers, educators, and students.
