The NUTRAFOOD Center (“Research Center of Nutraceutical and Food for Health”), established on July 26, 2013, has the main purpose of combining the efforts of all faculty and researchers working on food, nutrition, nutraceuticals, and health.
With this Center, the University of Pisa has equipped itself with a unique tool capable of conducting multidisciplinary studies, which are fundamental in a complex sector like nutraceuticals. The results of these studies can help improve the general health status of the population and reduce the burden on health care demand.
Indeed, teachers and researchers of ten different departments have joined the NUTRAFOOD Center: Clinical and Experimental Medicine; Surgical, Medical, Molecular and Critical Area Pathology; Translational Research and New Technologies in Medicine and Surgery; Biology; Veterinary Sciences; Pharmacy; Agriculture, Food, and Environment; Economics and Management; Civil and Industrial Engineering; and Earth Sciences.
Since 2013, the NUTRAFOOD Center has conducted intensive scientific activity, as evidenced by many papers published in international ISI journals. It also undertakes educational and outreach activities through initiatives, projects, seminars, and conferences aimed at involving ordinary citizens, consumers, educators, and students.
